Why Yoga
Yoga has become quite popular in recent years, and for good reason. Studies have shown the benefits of yoga to be many. Excellent for increasing flexibility and joint movement, stimulating circulation and keeping the heart healthy, and helping those quiet an active mind are just some of the benefits. Yoga also tones the muscles, helps us reach new extensions in height, and calms the nerves. Did you know Yoga also aids in digestion, is good for allergy symptoms, and keeps the systems of the body in check? Yoga also stimulates Prana in your body - aka the vital life force, aligning and balancing the Chakra's which are centers or wheels of energy in the body, there are 7.
Think of how we move through our hectic lives. Yoga is time just for you, to breathe, to stretch, to make a connection beyond the outer world and towards the Self. When was the last time you stopped and took a deep breath, slowed down for a minute, and just sat and reflected? Encourage yourself to engage in the present moment, and you will get the most out of the practice.
Pranayama is sanksrit for "mindful breath." The breath acts as your guide, a foundation. We take deep inhales and exhales to facilitate the poses, and to create a sense of calm in our total being. Using the breath throughout the practice is a must. Allowing the breath to guide you will deepen and strengthen your Yoga.
Yoga is the perfect opportunity to be curious about who you are.
